[Book Review] Searching for God Knows What – Donald Miller

books

(wrote this during Lent, so I’m posting it now)

After reading Blue Like Jazz probably…a year ago (or more :P), a couple of months ago I picked up Don Millers next book, Searching for God Knows What. And by “picked up,” I actually mean I took it off my brother’s shelf. He’s built up a nice small collection (sort of) of Christian books that I like to help myself to when he’s not around hahaha. Anyway, after reading it, I thought I’d share some thoughts about it: Continue reading

Inspiration #25

[Chorus]
Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before
O my soul
I’ll worship Your holy name

The sun comes up, it’s a new day dawning
It’s time to sing Your song again
Whatever may pass, and whatever lies before me
Let me be singing when the evening comes

[Chorus]

You’re rich in love, and You’re slow to anger
Your name is great, and Your heart is kind
For all Your goodness I will keep on singing
Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find

[Chorus]

And on that day when my strength is failing
The end draws near and my time has come
Still my soul will sing Your praise unending
Ten thousand years and then forevermore

[Chorus x2]

Jesus, I’ll worship Your holy name
Lord, I’ll worship Your holy name

Sing like never before
O my soul
I’ll worship Your holy name
Jesus, I’ll worship Your holy name
I’ll worship Your holy name

Inspiration #24

In moments like these
I sing out a song
I sing out a love song to Jesus

In moments like these
I lift up my hands
I lift up my hands to the Lord

Singing I love you Lord
Singing I love you Lord
Singing I love you Lord
I love you

Was at a worship workshop today and this song came to mind when the topic of being a leading worshiper worshipping genuinely instead of just a worship leader

Lent 2013

It’s a little early. But I wanted to say this to myself before I do it this year.

The 2 things I’m planning on lenting this year are:
(1) the internet (outside of work)
(2) gaming (console, handheld and mobile)

On an off-topic note, the book Red Letter Revolution came up today in my small group fellowship, and while sifting through my old blog posts, I found I had posted a this link (that Starfield tweeted LOLL):

http://www.redletterchristians.org/12-hopes-for-2012/

Out of the 12 things there, I think I’ve done about half of those LOLL. I wanna try and do some (or maybe even all) of those things again this year (maybe even add another one since it’s 2013)

I’ve also been reading Don Miller’s book “Searching for God Knows What”, the book that came after “Blue Like Jazz”. Interesting read so far.

Inspiration #23

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

–1 Corinthians 13:4–13

Been reflecting and kinda internally struggling through some personal things, today this verse came to mind to remind me that love, godly love is an embodiment of many things, and I should trust God with this.

One of my favourite verses too 🙂
